The Amazing Spider-Man (2012)

Peter Parker gets bitten by a genetically altered spider and obtains special powers. He decides to use his powers for good and becomes an iconic hero in New York. Now his city is being threatened by the Lizard (a hybrid of a lizard and a man) and Peter has to do whatever it takes to save the people he loves.

I’ve had this desire to see The Amazing Spider-Man again now for a while but I haven’t really had the time, until now. I don’t know how many times I’ve watched this movie but it’s just as amazing as always. I’ve said it before and I’m saying it again, Andrew Garfield will always be my Spider-Man, no matter what. It just feels like we have built this relationship together and he’s the one who made me fall in love with the character. Andrew Garfield is also fantastic in this movie. He presents this nerdy, super clever and a bit dorky Peter Parker and I really enjoy that version of him. I also love love love Peter and Gwen in this movie. They are not just becoming a couple straight away, their relationship is slowly built, and I really like that. Emma Stone is also amazing!

What also makes me love The Amazing Spider-Man is how they gradually build this fantastic superhero. They show the whole process of him receiving these powers but also what he goes through emotionally. I would say this movie explains everything so well which I really appreciate because sometimes you just get thrown into a story without even knowing what it’s about or getting any facts. The only thing I’m missing is the Spidey humor. It was there but they could have made the movie a little bit more funny. This movie is however perfect and I will probably watch it a lot more!!

My rating: 8,8/10 🕷️

It’s an enjoyable film, i’m still quite fond of Garfields Spiderman but interestingly I re-watched it after Spiderman homecoming and ASM felt very formulaic and a bit generic so yeah maybe it hasn’t aged that well for me.

Good review. Personally, I liked Garfield’s portrayal of Peter Parker / Spider-Man more than Macquire’s performance. Its just disappointing that the ASM movies stopped after the second one. However, now we have Tom Holland as Spider-Man and part of the MCU.
