In this year’s Doctor Who Christmas special we get to follow the 12th Doctor and the 1st Doctor on their adventure through the galaxy. Joined by the Captain and Bill, they all find themselves standing face to face with some rather see through aliens.

If you didn’t know, I kind of live for Doctor Who and I believe it was a little more than a year ago that I decided to go back to 1963 (not literally unfortunately, haven’t mastered time travel yet),  and watch all the 26 seasons and the movie to get the full Doctor Who experience. It took me a really long time, but oh was it worth it. So you can imagine how happy I was to hear that they were bringing back the 1st Doctor for this years Christmas episode, even though I knew it wouldn’t be my 1st Doctor (since William Hartnell is no longer with us). As one who has experienced quite a lot of the 1st Doctor, I am a little disappointed over how he was portrayed because I didn’t really feel like it was the 1st Doctor. I do however think it was a great attempt and a brilliant idea.

So getting into the whole plot I have to say that I’m a tad disappointed. I want more Christmas!! The Doctor Who Christmas specials I’ve enjoyed the most have been the ones that reminded me of Christmas. I can not say this one did. To this day I have to say that A Christmas Carol with Matt Smith is my absolute favorite Christmas special because that one felt like Christmas.

To my surprise, I found the Captain to be a very fascinating character and even if he might have had a smaller role, he put much to the story. Seeing Bill again was also very pleasant, even if her purpose might have been a tad vague. The aliens were also quite a question mark for me and I had a hard time seeing their purpose and/or threat as well.

The whole episode itself was very intriguing and emotional. I feel like we had characters being emotional from all sides and I really enjoyed that because it felt like this episode needed to be more emotional  due to Peter Capaldi’s goodbye. The last scene with him was also marvelous and they really managed to write the grand speech for the 12th Doctor. They captured one of the Doctors great qualities, which is delivering an amazing speech.

I am really looking forward to seeing the 13th Doctor now and I think she is going to do a brilliant job. Jodie Whittaker, take us by storm.

My rating: 7/10

Hi friends! So the very sad time has come, season 10 of Doctor Who has ended and there will be no more reviews. What am I going to watch every Saturday now?! It’s very hard for me because I am a Doctor Who fanatic but I’m going to stay strong. I did however do a review on each episode and I thought I would make a post with the links to the 12 reviews in case you wanted to read some. I’ve really enjoyed making these reviews and I’m definitely going to do the same for season 11, but this time without Peter Capaldi ( 😦 ). I really hope you have enjoyed them and season 10 of Doctor Who. It’s been a pretty good season, hasn’t it? So just click on a picture to get to a review. Thank you so much for reading, you are a pearl!

Doctor Who S10E12 Review

doctor-who-s10e12-f3ccc28486bcfdf4e4ef1ee3778b6886-fullJuly 2017   Ι   Season 10   Ι   Episode 12   Ι   Rachel Talalay

Following the previous episode, the Doctor, the Master, Missy, Nardole and Cyber-Bill are trying to come up with a plan to prevent the Cybermen from taking children. Missy and the Master has their own plans but Missy wonder if she’s going the right way. Meanwhile, Cyber-Bill is figuring out what it means to be a Cyberman and she doesn’t like it.

IT CAN’T BE OVER!! This season just came and went before I even had the chance to blink (we don’t have any Weeping Angels here so I’m allowed to do that). I seriously can’t believe it’s over though. I am a massive Doctor Who fan and I’m heartbroken, not just because season 10 is over but also because of this episode. It was very emotional. I really feel like the previous episode was more about the story and this episode was all about farewells. Episode 11 was more eventful and had an interesting story, they mostly talked with each other in episode 12. I also thought the fight would be longer but it was almost like there was no fight against the Cybermen, there were some explosions and that’s it. I did however find the episode interesting and it was a very good episode.

So we already knew that this was the end for Peter Capaldi and I have to say that he has been a fantastic Doctor. I really think the main focus was on him and he really had his moments to shine. He got to deliver his brilliant speeches as well. Bill also got a lot of attention and I really liked that they switched between human Bill and Cyber-Bill. Just so Pearl Mackie also could show her extraordinary talent. Bill’s ending was however a bit too weird for me, I just stared at the screen and could not understand what was happening. When it comes to the Master and Missy I have to say that it was a nice addition and they made the episode a lot more fun. I was a little disappointed over their ending but I can live with it. So is the 12th Doctor my new favorite Doctor? Unfortunately not. I’m still keeping the 11th Doctor, 10th Doctor and the 5th Doctor as my favorites. I have however loved following Peter Capaldi as the 12th Doctor and I wish him all the best. Now I’m going to watch the old seasons again, just because I don’t want it to end.
