HELLO 13TH DOCTOR Ι TWICE UPON A TIME REVIEW

p05nrwnrDecember 2017   Ι   Season 11   Ι   Episode 00   Ι   Rachel Talalay

In this year’s Doctor Who Christmas special we get to follow the 12th Doctor and the 1st Doctor on their adventure through the galaxy. Joined by the Captain and Bill, they all find themselves standing face to face with some rather see through aliens.

If you didn’t know, I kind of live for Doctor Who and I believe it was a little more than a year ago that I decided to go back to 1963 (not literally unfortunately, haven’t mastered time travel yet),  and watch all the 26 seasons and the movie to get the full Doctor Who experience. It took me a really long time, but oh was it worth it. So you can imagine how happy I was to hear that they were bringing back the 1st Doctor for this years Christmas episode, even though I knew it wouldn’t be my 1st Doctor (since William Hartnell is no longer with us). As one who has experienced quite a lot of the 1st Doctor, I am a little disappointed over how he was portrayed because I didn’t really feel like it was the 1st Doctor. I do however think it was a great attempt and a brilliant idea.

So getting into the whole plot I have to say that I’m a tad disappointed. I want more Christmas!! The Doctor Who Christmas specials I’ve enjoyed the most have been the ones that reminded me of Christmas. I can not say this one did. To this day I have to say that A Christmas Carol with Matt Smith is my absolute favorite Christmas special because that one felt like Christmas.

To my surprise, I found the Captain to be a very fascinating character and even if he might have had a smaller role, he put much to the story. Seeing Bill again was also very pleasant, even if her purpose might have been a tad vague. The aliens were also quite a question mark for me and I had a hard time seeing their purpose and/or threat as well.

The whole episode itself was very intriguing and emotional. I feel like we had characters being emotional from all sides and I really enjoyed that because it felt like this episode needed to be more emotional  due to Peter Capaldi’s goodbye. The last scene with him was also marvelous and they really managed to write the grand speech for the 12th Doctor. They captured one of the Doctors great qualities, which is delivering an amazing speech.

I am really looking forward to seeing the 13th Doctor now and I think she is going to do a brilliant job. Jodie Whittaker, take us by storm.

My rating: 7/10

Girlboss Season 1 Review (2/2)

1364175360659April 2017   Ι   Season 1   Ι   Episode 7-13   Ι   Kay Cannon

Sophie’s struggle to become a vintage clothing seller continues and if you read my review of episode 1-6 you might remember that I had high hopes for these last 7 episodes. So did I cross my fingers hard enough? Well maybe, I really can’t decide if I liked the last episodes or not. One thing that I did enjoy however was seeing Sophie grow so much and become an awesome human being. Just seeing how she followed her passion and never gave up was also really inspiring. I said it in the other review and I just have to say it again, Britt Robertson is freaking amazing and I just love her. I do however have to say that I only really started to like the character Sophie when there were two episodes left, because she could be quite rude. I did also feel like Sophie’s friend Annie blossomed throughout the season and I liked her a lot.

Girlboss had a pretty good ending. There were some characters I would have wanted to see more at the end, her dad for instance, but other than that I think plenty of characters got their closure. Sophie also had her struggles and ups and downs and the episodes were pretty eventful and varying. One thing that I’m still missing is the comedy, and I’m only saying this because the genre of the tv-show is comedy. I would probably have put this in drama or something similar instead. I do however feel like this is an inspiring show and the whole season was entertaining. It’s a shame that Girlboss ended but I’m not actually sure if I would have wanted to continue watching it. It just wasn’t really for me. I have to say that it was a very unique series though, and a good season.

Girlboss Season 1 Review (1/2)

girlbossApril 2017   Ι   Season 1   Ι   Episode 1-6   Ι   Kay Cannon

I wasn’t sure if I wanted to watch this series or not because it got canceled after one season and I’ve been very hurt before by great tv-shows that has been canceled after just one season. I figured, since I already knew it would only have one season, that I could give it a try. I’m splitting the review into two parts as well because then it’s easier to review the whole season, so this is episode 1-6 and I haven’t watched any further (I don’t know what will happen or how it ends). Let’s jump into the review!

The way I would describe Girlboss is that it’s this female character, Sophia, who is basically trying to figure out life and her purpose on this planet. Apparently it’s also based on a true story. Britt Robertson plays the main character Sophia and I just have to say that she is such a talented and brilliant actress. She really manage to present a unique and interesting character whom I enjoy following. Ellie Reed, who plays Sophie’s friend Annie, is also very talented and her character is really fun as well. The whole cast is actually pretty great.

When it comes to the story I have to say that it’s very interesting and I really like when a character is trying to find herself, it gives me inspiration. The first episode was however pretty tedious and uneventful but it was only 26 minutes so it didn’t bother me much. The fact that Sophie’s trying to go after her passion to sell clothes sounds very interesting to me but I don’t really feel like the story has taken its turn yet, it’s moving pretty slow.

I do have high hopes for the next 7 episodes, fingers crossed it will be a great ending as well. So far I haven’t become obsessed over the series because I don’t feel like it has had many super exciting scenes but this could definitely change. I am debating whether I find this show to be a comedy or not but it is quite entertaining. I do however love Britt Robertson so I’m excited to see the rest of Girlboss.
